SCIENCE: is always surprising us, and affects everything we do. Among other things, I have written about (for consumer and business readers):

  • I edited 'IMPACT', the quarterly Information Technology and Computer Science newsletter of the UK's EPSRC (Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council) for two years. This is a fascinating area — where leading edge research meets the needs of industry which in turn depends on university research for its long-term future. Many of today's product developments started their life as IT and science projects. 'IMPACT' covered the area with news and features. Its readers ranged from the general public, academic staff and their students, to marketing directors and product managers from industry.

  • I have written for the 'European Service Network' (ESN) — covering a number of publications and areas, such as 'CRAFT', 'Growth', 'Euroabstracts' (SME project research) and 'MEDEA +' (the pan-European microelectronics programme) for the European Commission.

  • I completed a very enjoyable spell writing for the quarterly newsletter of Diamond Light Source Limited, 'diamond news'. The Diamond synchotron light source is the largest scientific facility to be built in the UK for nearly 30 years.
